“You’re being rather discriminatory you know. Judging me because I’m a vampire and you’re a witch.”

“The two have hated each other since the beginning of time. I even wonder if you really are a vampire, considering you’re here with me now, beneath the sunlight.” She glanced down at his hand, watched as it inched up her thigh and she held her breath. Desperate for him to touch her there, wanting him to go away, she didn’t know what she really wanted.

Devon shook his head, the smile on his face making her want to slap it off. Or kiss it off. She wasn’t quite sure.

“Not true. I know of a few vampire/witch match ups.”

Tessa snorted. “I’m sure they all went up in flames. Vampires and witches don’t mix. It’s been proven time and again.”

His hand slithered farther until it did a sweep between her thighs, just the quickest touch and she wanted to come. Wanted to explode and lose herself to the man and his touch.

“Prove it now, Tessa.” He grabbed her hand, pulled her to her feet. She stumbled, fell into him, her hands braced against the solid warm wall of his chest and she gazed up into his eyes. A thread of fear crept into her at the glimmer she found in the black depths, and she began to tremble.

Crowds of people walked by them but they didn’t even seem to notice. Tessa glanced around, wishing she could make eye contact with any one of them, but they all ignored her and Devon. It was as if they didn’t even exist.

“Wait a minute did you put up some sort of shield so no one can see us?” The man—vampire or whatever the hell he was—had just performed some sort of magic on the both of them! How the hell did he do that?

His fingers wrapped around her upper arms and he pulled her closer, his mouth just above her ear. “I did. One of those couples I knew, that were a witch and a vampire? They’re my parents, the people who raised me.”

She tried to shove away from him but he held fast. “I don’t believe you. It’s impossible.”

“No it’s not, it’s true. How do you think I conjured up the magic to make us invisible? They taught me the ways, gave me abilities. How do you think I’m able to walk with everyone else during the day? It’s because my mother is a witch. Why do you think you find yourself so drawn to me?” He nuzzled her ear with his nose, making her gasp in unbidden delight. “Because we’re the same, Tessa, and when we come together, the magic we’ll make will be indescribable.”
