Did you love that show on Vh1? I sure did. I watched it so much – my favorites were the Faith Hill, Shania Twain and Boy George episodes. Oh and I loved the Def Leppard one too. Funny I mention the two country singers and I’m not a huge country fan…

Anywho, I was sad when they quit airing the show but hey — Vh1 Classics still airs it. And I watched The Genesis episode. Very interesting. Also made me write down a few song titles so I could add them to my playlist.

For whatever reason, my brother hates Phil Collins. Which means my oldest son hates Phil Collins too. I don’t get it. Now there are some Phil Collins/Genesis songs that make me cringe but there are also a few songs that I really like. Like this one — which I forgot about.

The lyrics are good – I found them quite fitting for a book I’m going to continue working on here soon. Had that other project land in my lap that occupied me but I’m almost done. Then I must focus on end of school year stuff (stresses me right the heck out) and then…bring on summer!

What We Did Monday Night

Since it was my husband’s birthday we did something special. First we went out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Then we went to a concert! We never go to concerts.

First up was this band:

They were good! Never heard of them before but I did recognize one of their songs – heard it on the radio before. Jeez, I’m getting old.

Next up was this band:

Oh, they were really good. I love Lifehouse! Though they didn’t sing my absolute favorite song of theirs, they’re forgiven. They write the best songs! They sound great live too.

Finally this band came on:

What a show! Three great bands, a sold out crowd. The place was packed and everyone was going nuts. Awesome light show, awesome music, we had such a great time! My husband said it was truly a memorable birthday. Can’t ask for more than that right?

I still heart Adam Lambert even if he did offend all of America with his antics on the AMA show. I felt his performance was a little over the top, like he wanted to scream at everyone, “IN YO’ FACE!” but I forgive him. The boy wants to shock and stay on everyone’s lips and he sure did that now didn’t he?

I’ll leave you with my latest favorite song. Oh, it’s an oldie but a goodie. I had no clue it was so old – like almost 30 years old! Damn it I’m getting old. I remember seeing this video on MTV waaaaaaay back in the day. Back when MTV actually played music videos and nothing else. That was a long time ago.

It’s by Split Enz – One Step Ahead. I stumbled upon it last weekend while searching for another song by Split Enz. I realized I liked this one way better. Enjoy! Don’t judge if you hate it. It’s pure 80s music and I’m sorry, but I’m a product of the 80s and proud of it. Ha!

New Favorite Song

Back in the day when I worked outside the home, me and my friend/coworker Marisa would listen to some streaming “radio” station on the internetz in our office. It played super cool, mellow music with all sorts of songs I loved, loved, loved. And was never able to find. Sigh. This was back in like 2001/2002 when iTunes wasn’t making my life easier so I just dealt with it.

And thought of those songs off and on ever since. Stumbling upon one here and there throughout the years, last night I hit freaking paydirt. I snapped up at least ten songs and this one below is my absolute favorite:

There are four or five videos for this song on YouTube. Weird man, I have no clue which one is “official,” but this one has a Matrix type feel to it. I lurve this song. It’s six minutes but to me, well worth a listen.

I love when I get stuck on a song. I love finding lots of good songs. Music puts me in a good mood.

Sooo there was this song I always loved – one of the first videos I ever saw on MTV. As time went on I forgot who sang it but every time I watched Sixteen Candles (OMG I love that movie), I heard it. Just barely. That scene where Samantha is passing the sex survey to her sleeping friend in study hall and the hot Jake Ryan grabs it instead? Yeah that song is playing faintly in the background. (it’s so sad I can describe that scene like that. A testament to how many times I’ve seen it)

It’s called Happy Birthday. And you could’ve knocked me over with a feather when I heard it on the kids show Yo Gabba Gabba.

Now I have a sore throat and it hurts like a mother. So I’m laying low and just chillin’ (cos I’m illin’ – and I’m a poet and I didn’t know it). But I have stuff to do – things to plan for my daughter’s upcoming birthday party (next Saturday – ack!). Sigh…

Good news is I just signed a new contract with Samhain for a short novella I wrote called Jesse’s Girl. Yep, it’s a story based a little bit on the song. Yay! It should come out sometime around August? Hopefully?
