Great Weekend

3:00 am • Filed under: Home Life

We had one at my house. Cinnamon rolls on Saturday morning, hanging out, laundry, gorgeous weather, chasing these ladies:

Watching this movie:

Pancakes and bacon on Sunday morning, lots of playing of the Super Mario Brothers game on Wii and swimming! Yes my children are nuts. I don’t even attempt to get in that pool till the end of May.

I’m relaxed and ready to tackle the week. Lots of writing planned – ooh and today is my husband’s birthday.

Happy Birthday Husband!! Love you!

My Rooster

3:00 am • Filed under: Home Life

(Hey let’s keep the animal theme on the blog going this week!)

This is my rooster. His name is, ahem, Black Spider-man. Clearly, my five year old son named him.

He is a macho ass. He struts around like he owns the joint. If my children run, he chases them. And spurs them! They cry – I whack him with a dried out palm frond. He doesn’t chase me. That might have something to do with the fact that I feed him.

I like him – I like how macho he is though I don’t like it when he chases the kids. I like it when he crows. Chickens and roosters make me think of my childhood and my grandma. She loves chickens – she used to have a bunch of roosters named after presidents. If I need advice, I call her. She’s my chicken whisperer.

We’re overflowing with eggs though. Good thing the majority in my house likes them…

Turkey Sex

3:00 am • Filed under: Home Life

See this guy?

He’s been coming around a lot. Because these girls have moved in with the chickens:

And so he’s trying to garner their attention. By fluffing up his feathers all Thanksgiving-like and putting on a real show. It worked. I saw him, ahem, getting busy with at least one female turkey Sunday afternoon. My daughter saw it too. Ah, life in the country! Nothing like wild birds teaching the children about sex.

Male turkeys are way better looking. Our poor girls are so ugly! I call them our girls because they have literally moved in. They sleep every night on top of the chicken coop. When I open up the gate for the chickens to come out in the morning, the turkeys walk in and eat. They hang out with the chickens all day. I consider those turkeys part of the family now.

Maybe we’ll have some babies to add to the mix…

Spring Cleaning

5:00 am • Filed under: Home Life,Writing

Despite all of the writing projects hanging heavy on my shoulders, my cluttered house is also a heavy weight. And though I’m plugging along on a certain project that is almost finished, I also feel the extreme need to clean my house.

More like, toss out a bunch of useless crap and free up some space. Kids watch out! I feel like going on a rampage!

Spring break is official in our neck of the woods. So I won’t be blogging as much for the next ten days. Isn’t this photo pretty?

Happy weekend!

No Spring Break

12:36 pm • Filed under: Home Life

At least not this week. Kids are still in school through Thursday – well oldest is out this week but right now he’s at his dad’s house. Next week he goes back to school and the two youngest are home. Such a confusing schedule sometimes.

Must work on various writing projects. Too many to mention, which means I’m a tad overwhelmed. Gotta bust out some sort of schedule. I’ve come to the conclusion I work in a constant state in organized chaos. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

President’s Week?

12:50 pm • Filed under: Home Life,I have issues

Yes, my children (well my two youngest – sorry oldest child!) get this entire week off. They call it “president’s week.” Whaaat? Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Me either.

So I am free all week of the 6 a.m. alarm. How I hate that alarm, how I hate that time! My children still get up early but by the end of the week they’ll be sleeping in till oh, 7 a.m. And then I’ll have to readjust their schedule and they’ll get grumpy and a blah blah blah.

I just bored myself with that last paragraph. I apologize.

I cleaned like a freak this weekend – as in making my ceiling fan sparkle and polishing the bedroom furniture. You know, the stuff you forget to do until you glance up at your ceiling fan one day in horror because you noticed the thick layer of dust. Oh my word.

I entered a writing contest and got the results back. Immediately wondered why I torture myself with those sorts of things. Never again, I say. Never again!

Going to send off lots of stuff by the end of the month – revisions asked for, rewrites asked for, etc. etc. Stuff very important people have requested so take THAT contest results! See, people DO like my writing. Really they do!

Wow. This post turned into a mini rant. And I never rant about this sort of stuff so my apologies. But I feel really good to have gotten that off my chest so I won’t take it back. There’s no taksie backsies here! I stole that saying from a made for TV crap movie starring Heather Locklear. She screams that (“This ain’t no taksie backsie!” ) at her mean husband in a fake Texas accent. Made of all sorts of awesome.

Do you celebrate the week of presidents? Well you should have today off at least right? When I worked outside of the home I never got president’s day off, let alone president’s week. Ah, the good ol’ days. Not…
