President’s Week?

12:50 pm • Filed under: Home Life, I have issues

Yes, my children (well my two youngest – sorry oldest child!) get this entire week off. They call it “president’s week.” Whaaat? Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Me either.

So I am free all week of the 6 a.m. alarm. How I hate that alarm, how I hate that time! My children still get up early but by the end of the week they’ll be sleeping in till oh, 7 a.m. And then I’ll have to readjust their schedule and they’ll get grumpy and a blah blah blah.

I just bored myself with that last paragraph. I apologize.

I cleaned like a freak this weekend – as in making my ceiling fan sparkle and polishing the bedroom furniture. You know, the stuff you forget to do until you glance up at your ceiling fan one day in horror because you noticed the thick layer of dust. Oh my word.

I entered a writing contest and got the results back. Immediately wondered why I torture myself with those sorts of things. Never again, I say. Never again!

Going to send off lots of stuff by the end of the month – revisions asked for, rewrites asked for, etc. etc. Stuff very important people have requested so take THAT contest results! See, people DO like my writing. Really they do!

Wow. This post turned into a mini rant. And I never rant about this sort of stuff so my apologies. But I feel really good to have gotten that off my chest so I won’t take it back. There’s no taksie backsies here! I stole that saying from a made for TV crap movie starring Heather Locklear. She screams that (“This ain’t no taksie backsie!” ) at her mean husband in a fake Texas accent. Made of all sorts of awesome.

Do you celebrate the week of presidents? Well you should have today off at least right? When I worked outside of the home I never got president’s day off, let alone president’s week. Ah, the good ol’ days. Not…

It’s Christmas Eve…

2:05 am • Filed under: Home Life

xmasevechildI hope your shopping is done, your cookies are baked and your presents are wrapped. I hope you’re able to snuggle up with your loved ones and enjoy the day before the BIG day. The calm before the storm, I always think of it. I know many celebrate on Christmas Eve but for my household it’s a time to relax and hang out.

My kids are so excited they can barely stand themselves. Well, the oldest is used to it all since he’s 15 but my other two are at prime get-really-crazy-over-Santa’s-impending-visit age (5 & 6). My daughter will have trouble sleeping tonight. She did last year. I remember having a bit of trouble sleeping at that age myself…

I hope you leave cookies and milk for Santa! We always do.

Merry Christmas Eve to you and yours!

Christmas Shopping

xmaspresents

I did a bit of it yesterday. My mom is staying with us and with the kid in school, we went on a mini shopping blitz.

We’re doing it again today.

The last couple of years, by this time I was done. Not this year and I can’t explain why. I do know this – I’ve found some pretty good bargains, I’ve been watching the money and I’ve barely put anything on a credit card. It’s been cash-exclusive. And that feels good!

How about you? Already done with your holiday shopping? Are you pleased with the results? Do you still need to wrap presents (I do)? Do tell…

Hear That?

12:46 pm • Filed under: Home Life, Random

Do you? Ahhh, yes it’s called…silence. As in my children are back in school and the house is quiet. I love my kids but man! They are destructive. And messy.

This week is busy. Parents are coming to visit, husband is eventually coming home and Halloween activities abound. Cookies! Pumpkin carving! Halloween class parties! Harvest festival! Trick or treating!

Save me!

Here’s a peaceful picture to go with my peaceful mood:

Pumpkin Patch

12:50 am • Filed under: Books I Love, Home Life, Mom stuff

We’re going. Well, it’s not a real pumpkin patch but a place set up in a dirt lot across from McDonald’s with hay bales and giant slide rides and KETTLE KORN. Oh, whoops, I think I just gave away the true reason I want to go to that particular pumpkin patch…

I should probably only buy two (overpriced) pumpkins at that joint and then go across the street to the supermarket and buy some more for a better deal. Yeah that sounds like a plan. Then the two little munchkins get their pumpkin “patch” experience, Mom gets her Kettle Korn and then we go get cheaper pumpkins…

Did you know that my friends R.G. Alexander and Eden Bradley have new books out this week at Samhain? Vampire books? Oooh la la, go check ‘em out!

What are YOU up to today?
