So I went to The Pioneer Woman’s blog to look for a recipe to make for dinner. Have you discovered PW? I can’t believe I only stumbled onto her site via someone else linking it about two months ago. Where have I been? This woman has turned me into a better cook! My family thanks her for it.
Anywho, dinner recipes. Yes, well I didn’t find a dinner recipe. I found the best chocolate sheet cake recipe instead.
Yeah it’s damn good. And not that hard to make (a cake from scratch? It’s been a loooong time since Karen did that!) either.
I’d share a photo of all that chocolate goodness I made but Word Press is being a booger and won’t let me load photos. Waaah. So go check out that recipe link. The cake is just as good as it looks. Maybe even better. Yum…PW is like the devil herself tempting us with all of the deliciousness.
Okay enough waxing poetic over chocolate cake. Hope everyone has a –

I looked around my house and realized…it’s a freaking mess. I have too much stuff! Do you ever want to just throw it all away figure out a way to reorganize it? Well, I’m on a mission this upcoming weekend.
A cleaning mission. A purging mission. I’ve noticed I do this every few months. Just get fed up, grab a stack of garbage bags and start tossin’. And what I don’t toss, I try to reorganize/organize. Some how. Some way.
I think I might recruit the munchkins. See if they want to help.

Huh. I doubt it…
What are you doing this fine holiday weekend?

…is almost over and we’ve survived it. Yay! The early morning wake up is tough but we’re making it. Barely.
I love a good nap. Even if it’s only for fifteen minutes with Hannah Montana in the background. I take whatever I can get.
So thank goodness it’s Friday! Here are photos of Shaver Lake. We went there last week for a picnic. It was beautiful.
Happy Weekend!

Was a success. Here are my two youngest just before we left the house:

Aren’t they precious?

Since Monday marks the beginning of school, this also marks a new schedule in my household. We are getting up early.
Real early.
Like around six. That’s in the a.m. I have to get my daughter to the bus stop by around seven so…yeah. That means early rising. And I’m not really an early riser. Well, I don’t do half bad but over the summer, I got real lazy. Like real real lazy. So it’s hard to get back into the swing of things.
I’m even toying with the idea of waking up even earlier to write. Yes! Like around five! Can I do it? If I go to bed early enough I can. I’m having to go to bed early anyway so why not a little earlier? I’ve decided I’m losing my night writing time so I gotta do a switch.
Can I do it? I don’t know. I just read somewhere (I believe it was Candace Havens who said it, I could be wrong but I’m giving her credit anyway) that if you write first thing after you wake up, your internal editor is shut off.
Well, I bet my internal editor will be flat-out asleep. But that will probably work in my favor.
Any early risers out there? Do you feel your best in the morning or are you a night owl? And tell me, is my plan crazy? From night owl to early bird - can it be done?

…and preparing for school. That’s what my weekend is going to consist of. I need to clean out my children’s clothes and reorganize that mess. I need to clean my house. I need to organize my house.
Yes indeed, I have a big job ahead of me.
But fear not! I’ll be back Monday. And my children will be in school! Hurray!

They’re almost here! In one week my children will be off to school (oldest is actually starting Wednesday!). I can’t believe it’s already time.
Back in my day we started school the day after Labor Day and were let out the beginning of June. That gave us a full three months of summer. Now the kids are lucky to get two months! Poor little boogers.
When school resumes even my youngest will be going every day. That’s right, you heard me. Every. Day.
Is that cause for celebration or what? Oooh I’m so bad but seriously. More time to write! And I’m going to need it since I have to get up at the crack of doom just to get the boogers off to school. My entire schedule has to change - no more writing late at night. A girl needs at least a few hours of beauty sleep…

Yes, I took that photo. Not my oldest, but me. I’m impressed, if I do say so myself. And I didn’t even fiddle with it in Photoshop. Which I am slooooowly trying to figure out. But that’s another blog post.
This photo says it all. It is my life on the dirt road. See that road? It’s the road I live on. See that blue sky? We haven’t had much of that considering the smoke from all of the fires. It was actually a decent day Thursday though hot. See those poor little burned out flowers? Yes they burned to death from the dreadful heat.
Poor things.
See that awesome wood fence? That’s not my fence. That’s the Dibble’s fence, they’re our neighbors. They have horses. I’ll share pics of them sometime soon.
When we first moved out there (almost seven years ago) my oldest asked me (he was seven at the time), “Whose house is that?” and I answered, “The Dibbles.”
He pondered that for a moment, his brows drawing together and then blurted out, “The Devils?” The look on his face was pure horror.
Unbeknownst to them, we called the Dibble’s the Devils for years.

My daughter - my FIVE year old daugher - has somehow pulled a muscle or something in her knee and now it’s a little swollen. And she can hardly put pressure (i.e. walk) on it.
How the heck did she do that? She’s five! Try Googling “Five year old with a swollen knee” and you get a lot of dog-related articles. I think she would find that insulting, comparing her injury to a beagle’s.
My husband and I discussed it and we can only come up with the pool. She’s amazing in there. Swims like a fish. So we’re thinking she strained a muscle while swimming. She’s crazy good - I have visions of the Olympics…
If it’s not better by the evening I’m calling the doctor first thing tomorrow and taking her in.
Wild.
Even wilder - trying to keep a a five year old contained. In one spot. Especially when her three year old brother keeps tempting her to come play. Sigh…
Wish me luck.

It’s here with a vengeance where I’m at. Talk about hot. I believe the predicted high today is 106 degrees.
Ugh. Thank goodness we have a pool. Guess where I’m going to be today? Yes I plan on going to the local little market (where they gouge my eyes out with the price of stuff but I’m desperate), picking up some poolside snacks and me and the kids are gonna hang out poolside.
I’m giving myself a little break because I finished my book. Yep it’s done. And yes I’m a little sad but I didn’t have to resort to crying and lighting candles so that’s a good thing.
What are you doing this weekend? Whatever it is, have fun and stay cool!
