I didn’t write a word yesterday. And that’s okay! I gotta admit, it felt good. Relaxing, no pressure.
I pressured myself in different ways instead. Yep, I went to the ritzy part of town and did a little Xmas shopping. Williams Sonoma was making a full on Thanksgiving feast! It smelled so good. We were a little early so me and the little one had some pumpkin cookies. Delicious…
Looked over magazines and stuff, figuring out what the heck I’m gonna make for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s in a week! Aaah! That freaks me out a little.
Then my dearest friend called me last night. We’ve known each other since we were 11. We share a long and silly history. We have this way of talking where we revert to sounding like we did when we were teenagers. Lots of giggling and funny things said.
Oh, wait, and we also bring on the bad language. We sound like pissed off sailors. It’s so much fun! We got stuck on saying, “sucks c*@k.” Yeah we kept repeating that one, drawing out the last word. Heh, heh. I love my bestest friend. Too bad she doesn’t live closer to me.
So any of you ready for Thanksgiving? How’s the writing going? Have a good friend who trash talks with you? Tell me all about it.

Melissa Marsh says:
Sometimes, it’s ok to give yourself permission not to write. We need the time to rest and rejuvenate, otherwise writing becomes a chore.
S William says:
I found your blog via Melissa and just wanted to say hello.
I ditto Melissa’s sentiments. Some writers and books tell you that if you don’t write everyday, you are a failure.
Not so.
We are all different. Writing is not a science, it is an art. I need time off, and rarely write on weekends unless I am finishing a novel.

Friends like that are great, aren’t they?
I wrote about 1,000 words yesterday. I hope to get more done today. We’ll see. As for thanksgiving, we go to my hubby’s family’s house. They are Italian so it is always a big feast with not only traditional thanksgiving food but homemade Italian as well!
Sarah L. Castleberry says:
For Thanksgiving, we’re going to the big extended family get-together in Dallas.
I’m cheating this year.
I’m going to get four tubs of those ready-to-serve microwave mashed potatoes. Put ‘em all in a bowl with some butter…
Yep. That’s the holiday spirit for ya!

Sigh. The only friends I can talk trash like that with now are my online friends — THANK GOD FOR YOU GIRLS!!! My best friend from high school went all feminist man-hater on me and my best college buddy is now an English teacher. Need I say more? Maybe when she doesn’t have to worry about lapses in front of her ninth-graders, she’ll let loose with some of the sailor-speak we used to enjoy.

No Thanksgiving over here.
Which is good. I don’t really need an excuse to gain weight. I can do that any day of the week.
Miss the pumpkin pie though!
Lillian Feisty says:
I am so making the pear, chestnut and sage dressing from the Williams Sonoma website.
And, I’ll be saying the word co&k while i’m doing it!
Tara M. Leigh says:
I’m still in shock that Thanksgiving is a week away! We’re going to friends house so I don’t have to cook! YAY!!!
With Love,
Tara M.
Emma Sinclair says:
I’m doing my first big Thanksgiving shopping trip tomorrow. I say first because even though I have a list (organized by aisle thank you very much) it’ll be a miracle if I actually get everything I need.
As for trash talking, I’m the nice one so it’s always a big event if I start doing it.
