I’m almost finished with the novella. Well, at least with the first draft. And since I went back so many times to reread the dang thing in the beginning, the first half of the first draft is pretty clean. So editing shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
That means I haven’t written on the NaNo project in…four days? Five? I don’t know, but I’m not sure if I’m going to go back to it right now. I have another idea that came on strong a few days ago. It’s chomping at the bit to come out after the novella is submitted. So we’ll see.
I think I put a lot of pressure on myself to do NaNo again cos I did it last year and accomplished my goal. And then I got caught up in the NaNo frenzy. I’m thrilled that other writers are doing so well at it - congrats to them! I might get back into it, but I don’t know…
In other news my house is clean (gasp!) but I still need to do laundry. It’s amazing to me how I can do all the laundry and then two days later it looks like I didn’t do any. This is what happens in a house of two adults and three children.
Here’s some Monday inspiration for you…

Bella Tyler says:
I am dragging ass with my NaNo project as well. But I had final edits to do last week and time just got away from me. Today I have a zillion things on the to do list, lol

Ooh, spooky — my house is clean, too! And yes, no matter how much laundry I do, there’s still a mountain of it waiting at the bottom of the chute.
Karen, as long as you’re writing, who cares if you don’t finish NaNo? No point in denying your muse just to make some arbitrary deadline. The whole point of NaNo is to get you writing regularly, and you’re doing that! Great job!
M. Green says:
I agree with Robin. I mean, you’re writing. Wasn’t that the goal of NaNo in the first place? *shrugs* Don’t stress over it. And besides, real deadlines are kinda more important than fake NaNo ones. Not that I’m digging on NaNo or anything.
Oh crap, now I’m gonna have the NaNo police chasing after me to kill me or something. *shakes head*
Btw, awesome picture for Monday Inspiration. I absolutely love it.
Shelli Stevens says:
You know, how funny, I’m actually considering pulling out of NaNo too. Because I’m so caught up on fixing an old book now. Sigh.
Sounds like you’re kicking arse writing what you want though! So congrats!
Tempest Knight says:
Think of NaNo as a means to an end. If you want to start a new project, fine. Still use the energy of the NaNo to work on it. That’s what I did last year. I had like 3 stories started at once for NaNo. I was halfway through one when another idea popped in my head. So I began working on and put the other on hold. It’s all a matter of putting that pressure to good use. *winks*
Melissa Marsh says:
I think the NaNo stuff does have a lot of hype surrounding it - you get geared up to do it and sometimes, the energy sort of fizzles once you get into the project.
I hear ya on the whole laundry thing - my laundry basket is never empty for more than a few hours.
Kelley says:
I’m not really doing my unofficial NaNo anymore. I just had too much going one to concentrate on it like I needed to.
Zinnia says:
I think the NaNo idea is cool, but I’d have to give up sleeping and everything else I do to fit it in. I did finish my latest novel for Freya’s Bower, so now I’m going to finish my RUBY novel (paranormal romance) to peddle to agents and publishers. I have about 20K left on it.
As for a clean house, I sure could use some help around here. Hint-hint, LOL!
Isabella Snow says:
I can’t say I’m feeling the NaNo high. I’m not a multitasker. It’s hard enough to go back and forth on edits and still try to finish a WIP.
I’m an OCD girlie. One thing at a time, to the brink of obsession. Yes, they do make meds for people like me.
But it’s so much more interesting this way…
Amanda Brice says:
Congrats on almost finishing the novella. NaNo is kicking my butt…haven’t gotten much done at all, but I can’t blame it on housework either, sad to stay. My apartment is a WRECK, which is problematic, considering as my parents are coming next week.
Stacy Dawn says:
I washed out my fridge today…ugh. And I second the mystery of laundry and blame it on the kids too.
Good for you on your novella work!
Lillian Feisty says:
Everyone’s right! You’re writing and you should be proud of yourself!! Good going!
And your house is clean, too? WTG!!
Sarah L. Castleberry says:
OMG, Karen!! I just saw your Fairy Christmas cover for the first time and it is AWESOME!!! Wow!!!
PS - check is in the mail.
Ann Cory says:
Hi Hon
Great inspiration indeed! I signed up to do Nano and haven’t had any time to do it! EEK
Congrats on a clean house - that is always a good thing
I just wanted to say hi and see how you were doing!!! *hugs*
Tara M. Leigh says:
My house was clean on Friday…with hubby out of town I didn’t do a thing, it was starting to look like a frat house! LOL
As for NaNo, I wouldn’t do it if you weren’t having fun! Make sense?
With Love,
Tara M.
M.E Ellis says:
Well done on NaNo!
LOL @ clean house…oh how I envy you!
