I feel scattered and I need to focus. There’s all of these things I want to accomplish, and I don’t know if I have time to do them all. So that means I need to make time.
Which means I need to — gulp — organize.
It’s not that I’m a total scatterbrain, but I don’t organize much. I’ve tried - lord knows I’ve tried. Many times. Over and over. When I worked full time, I always meant well. Had calendars dinging at me on the computer (eventually just shut them off cos they annoyed me), made lists a mile long. But in the end I discovered those things didn’t work for me. I preferred to work in chaos.
Ugh!
I get too easily distracted. At home, I’ll fold a load of laundry, take it back to my bedroom to put away, start making the bed, clean the bathroom…and that load of laundry is still sitting there waiting to be put away.
This is the story of my life!
So this week my goal is to get organized. I don’t know how much it’ll help me, but I wanna try. Again. I want to organize both my personal life AND my writing life. I’d like to get a plan in place by the end of this week, especially cos I’m going out of town at the end of next week. Wish me luck cos I’m gonna need it.
What works for you guys? Any suggestions? I need all the help I can get.

Amanda Brice says:
No suggestions, here, because I’m such a disorganized mess it’s unreal!
Kelley says:
I thrive on my schedule. I don’t always have the amount of time I want to do the things I enjoy, but I have some and its usually around the same times of day. I have a toddler who thrives on her shedule too so that helps.
Nicole Reising says:
Oh good luck! I love getting organized! It never lasts for me but I love that feeling for how ever long it lasts!

Organizing can be so much fun - gives you an excuse to buy calendars and colored pens…
I’m really good at organizing, putting everything on a list, making a schedule…and then not doing any of it!! But boy it sure was fun and felt good when I was writing it all down!
LOL
That was no help, was it?
Tara M. Leigh says:
I don’t really organize, I just have set routines I follow. But, boy, if I forget something in the routine or stray away from it, I’m screwed all day!!!
Wonder if that’s a sign of OCD??? LOL
With Love,
Tara

There is no organizing my personal life, except around the kids (and Prison Break) LOL and I make writing goals but rarely beat myself up if I don’t meet them. I do think they can help us remember what direction we’re going in but I don’t think they should hard/fast. I do sticky notes on my laptop but I’m a list maker anyway (the problem is when I lose the list LOL). I’m also one of those odd folks who always has to have a contingency plan!
Melissa Marsh says:
The best thing I do is just have a desk calendar and write down appts., etc., that I need to remember. I also put a monthly reminder - usually on the 15th or so of the month - that reminds me of my goals.
Organization is not one of my strong points, that’s for sure!
Shelli Stevens says:
I do great when I make a daily checklist. Like.
1. exercise 30 min
2. write 1 hour
3. do two loads of laundry.
etc. That way you can check them off as you go! And your thoughts are chores are organized.

Blogger is giving me a bugger of a time… But finally I get to comment.
I am NOT an organization queen. I so feel your pain with being a scatterbrain! Making lists is the only way I’m able to stay focused. Even then, I tend to deviate. But at least I know how to find my way back to the tasks I MEANT to do ;-)
Good luck!!
Cora Zane says:
Okay, have you been spying on me? I do that sort of thing with the laundry all the time! ^_^
I have learned to work with the chaos. The only way I ever get anything completed is to finish what I start… even if I think it totally sucks. I may have to write bits of it here and there, but I don’t move on to the next book until I finish the current one. When I finish it, I cross it off my list of book ideas–the thing is there is a huge list. *sigh* At times I feel overwhelmed because there are so many things I want to write. But like they say, you have to do it one step at a time.
Stacy Dawn says:
Ugh, not my forte at all. I’m trying desperately too. Good luck!!
Julie S says:
Sorry, I’ve got nothing for you.
But WTG on thinking about being organized! That’s a step forward!
