I hung out at Joyfully Reviewed yesterday. It was contemporary day for authors and it was swamped with excerpts, contests, excerpts and more excerpts.
Let me tell you, I read soooo many good excerpts! I can’t believe how many great ebooks there are. Actually, I can believe it. I just hadn’t faced the reality yet, I guess.
What I’m saying is there’s a lot of talent in the epublishing ranks. I was literally reading samples from author’s books and writing down the names of them so I can go buy them later. I also bought two. And I want to buy more. A LOT more. Which means I’m going to be broke, but I’ll have some great reading material.
I’m just floored by the writing talent. The creative plots. Stuff that made me think, “Wow, wish I would’ve thought of that!” Just really impressive books.
You know, there’s such a limited amount of room in the NY publishing houses. They only produce so many books per month, per year. And there’s so many talented writers out there, so many people who would love to be in print with a NY house, but your chances are slim cos the slots are so few.
That’s the great thing about ebooks. They are producing quality work in mass amounts. Which for us, as readers AND writers, is a plus. All the books to choose from to read, and so little time! All the publishers to submit to, whoo wee! It’s wonderful!!
So today I sing the praises of ebooks. There are some pretty fantastic authors out there — and some pretty great publishers too. And to think a year and a half ago I really didn’t know much about them. I was missing out!
What’s your overall impression of ebooks? Wave of the future? Gonna grow bigger and brighter or slowly die out? Personally, I think they’re here to stay. But maybe I’m partial…

I don’t prefer to read from my CPU screen BUT I’ve taken to enjoying e-books on my PDA. The PDA is about the size of a paperback book..hmm, maybe a bit smaller, but it fits in your hand and doesn’t bother me at all.
As long as the quality is good, I’ll read it!
Tara M. Leigh says:
I honestly thought they were a joke and wouldn’t last. I spent months trying to find a traditional agent/publisher. And, then I realized that yes there are readers out there and all I wanted to see what my name in print. The money is a huge plus, but to see my name in print, to entertain someone and to show my talent are the most important things. Which is why now, I am going to start subbing to e-publishers. I do think they are here for the long haul.
Julie S says:
I’m happy and amazed at the success of e-books. I’ve only recently started reading them, but I haven’t been disappointed yet!
I would prefer to get an e-book reader though; the only downside for me is reading them in front of my computer, when I prefer to read in my bed or on my chair!
Shelli Stevens says:
I LOVE it when people can get how hard it is to break into NY. How few slots there really are. It’s a game of luck and talent. But that talent spills over into ebooks, and I’ll tell you. I read a lot more ebooks now than paper. They’re cheaper, shorter (the ones I buy!) and easier to read in bed at night!
That chat was fun yesterday! My puter sucks, so I can’t stay onlline very long.
Nicole Reising says:
As I’ve always said — I believe ebooks are here to stay - but I also think paper back books are too. I think both have their nich and both can satisfy us depending on our needs and wants.

I think ebooks are here to stay and the market will continue to grow. I’m reading more ebooks than print books these. They characters and plots seem fresher to me for the most part. Some awesome talent out there.
Stacy Dawn says:
I think they are slowly finding their place. They will never replace print books but with palm readers etc now coming out more, as soon as they get affordable, you won’t have to sit at your computer to read them.
Bebe Thomas says:
I love, love, love e-books!
M.E Ellis says:
I love ebooks, just need to buy a darn ereader!
:o)
Kelley says:
There is great talent out there in ebooks. I read them but and enjoy all the ones I’ve read so far. I would love an reader. Thats the only downfall in my book. I need to start saving!
April says:
I definately don’t think they’ll die out. But I don’t think paper books will either.
I think they both have their nitches and as they develop them more, you’ll find more and more books and publishers going both ways.
Cora Zane says:
I think ebooks are here to stay. I never really thought about it too much, but I got a message from a really nice lady from the UK on myspace who was asking if my books were paperback or e format. Turns out she is handicapped and can’t leave home, and she said she relies on ebooks more than print books because she has better access to them. I had never once considered that.
Now traditional print publishers are offering ebooks. I think that’s a sign. I don’t think they believed ebooks a threat to them in the very beginning, but it must be taking a good chunk out of their profit margin, or I don’t think they’d bother.
Emma Sinclair says:
I agree that ebooks are here to say (personally though I go in waves where all I read is ebooks for awhile then print, then back and forth - I don’t really tend to read both at the same time for whatever reason) BUT I think we will eventually start to see some of the millions of epublishers close.
But I think that’s a good thing. I definately would prefer quality over quanitity!
Jodie says:
E are the way of the future for sure. They are willing to take a risk on books that other houses wouldn’t and that’s what makes them different
