Perverted

1:01 pm • Filed under: Uncategorized

Do you ever feel like you are? Like, every little thing you say ends up related to sex? You see some random dude and start feeling a litte . . . randy? I don’t know, I think it’s all this sex I write.

Not that I write pure sex. Of course there’s a plot! A nice little story rich with emotions and conflict (well, at least I certainly hope all that stuff is in there!). Try and tell that to my husband’s friends, the few he casually mentioned about what I was doing.

“My wife wants to become a published author. She’s writing a book,” my innocent husband said.

“What kinda book?” one of his friends asked.

Husband shrugs. “Dunno. I think she said a romance.”

Heads shaking. Bug eyes. Catcalls. The works. “Where does she get her inspiration?” Wink wink, nudge nudge.

My poor husband. He doesn’t talk about what I write with his friends anymore. Though that may change when I get published! (Or maybe not, cos then the proof of what I write is out there - in print! That just might freak them all out.)

What’s got me thinking about all of this is that romantica/erotica/whatever you want to call it short story I’m almost finished with. I know, I know, I should be getting down to business and prepare my Blaze for submission, but this story came out of nowhere and I couldn’t resist. I had to let it flow out of me for fear of it disappearing.

Anyway, it’s a fun little sexy (ok, whole lotta sexy) romp that has been so much fun to write. And it made me realize . . .

I’m a pervert.

Not that I’m writing about extreme kink or anything, but I guess it’s opened my eyes that I enjoy writing this sex stuff cos it’s fun. The sexual tension stuff is even more fun. Romance is fun.

Huh. So I guess that makes me not so much of a pervert after all.

Watch me argue with myself on my blog! I’m a freak.

Anybody else feel like this writing stuff/romance stuff/sex stuff consumes them? Makes them feel a little naughty? And they like it? Please, join my club!

    Nope. You’re just weird.

Just kidding. I don’t write erotica, heck, in half my stories they don’t even make love but when I do do the sexy stuff, the love scenes etc, yeah, it’s on the brain wherever I go…hubby can’t complain though LOL

  2. Shelli Stevens says:

I enjoy writing erotic romance, or romances period. But I hate it when people read it and assume I’m a pervert because I write the stuff. They don’t understand writing for the industry. If the industry suddenly want romances without sex, guess what, they’re goes my sex!

But I do have fun writing it

There’s nowt wrong with a bit of erotica, dearie. Just make sure the heroine keeps her drawers on!

Sorry, that was just me being daft. Of course she has to take them off. Let her do anything she damn well feels like doing. This is the noughties, after all.

Pervert? The definition in my dictionary is: To cause to turn away from what is right, proper, or good.

As far as I’m concerned, sex is right, proper and good so where’s the perversion?

I like the fact you looked it up Sharon. And didn’t you see me argue with myself in my own blog? I decided I wasn’t so much of a pervert after all!

I’m just a girl with a healthy sexual obsession. lol

  5. Sarah L. Castleberry says:

I like writing and reading sexy romances, and can definitely feel an overload on the sexy stuff sometimes.

Did you ever see that Friends episode where they were watching porn 24/7? The line they said was like, in shock, “I went into the bank today, and the teller wasn’t a hot chick, and she didn’t ask me to go explore the vault with her”, etc.

    LOL.

    ROTFL, Karen!

A week or so ago when I was finally allowing my characters to “consumate” their love, I kept emailing my cp and saying, “I think I’m writing porn.” Then I said, “Uh, you might have to edit out some of this. It’s sort of like porn.”

And then I realized, nope, it’s not porn and I’m not a pervert. It’s sexy and romantic and what I like. And that, my dear is all that matters!

  7. Kristi says:

    LOL, Karen.
I know what you mean about sometimes feeling …. uh, obsessed. Yeah, that’s what we’ll call it.

  8. Julie S says:

    I think pervert is a strong word. I prefer…open-minded.

I’m pretty much consumed with my characters’ sex lives. I want to make sure they’re happy, satisfied and fulfilled. So, count me in. I’ll join your club.

  9. Sharon J says:

Oh yes, Karen, but I needed to know whether or not you could be described as a pervert. I need to know what kind of people I’m dealing with y’know ;-)
